What each step does

The arrival card is submitted through the official NIA online channel as part of the entry process. It records who is entering China and is free to submit.

Accommodation registration records where you are staying. At a hotel, the hotel registers guests during check-in. In a private home or other non-hotel accommodation, the visitor or host is generally responsible for registering within 24 hours.

Why mixing them up causes problems

Completing the arrival card does not register your accommodation. The two steps use different channels and have different deadlines, so treat them as separate items on your arrival checklist.

Online accommodation registration is currently a regional pilot. If it is not available in your area, use the local public-security process; your host or accommodation provider can confirm the local route.

  • Arrival card: entry step, official NIA channel, free.
  • Registration: stay step, hotel or local authority, 24-hour rule.
  • Complete both; neither substitutes for the other.
