What the forms are

The MFA's study-visa guidance lists the JW201 or JW202 visa-application form for foreign students as required documentation for the X1 long-term study visa. These forms are issued through the admitting institution, not generated by the applicant.

The X2 short-term study visa lists the admission notice rather than a JW form. Match the document set to the visa category your course length requires.

Ordering the documents

Ask the school's international office which form applies to your program and when it will be issued. The form, together with the admission notice, forms the school-issued evidence for the visa application.

Keep the original form safe: it is part of the application pack submitted to the embassy or consulate, and the mission may retain or annotate it during processing.

  • X1 (over 180 days): admission notice plus JW201 or JW202.
  • X2 (up to 180 days): admission notice.
  • Request the form from the school early; it is outside your direct control.
