Start with the waiver test

If the traveler’s nationality is on the current MFA waiver list and the visit is a short business trip of no more than 30 days, visa-free entry may fit the fair visit.

Carry evidence that supports the business purpose, such as the fair registration, host or exhibitor contact, accommodation booking and return travel plan.

Why the M visa still matters

The M visa is designed for commercial and trade activities and is supported by a document from the Chinese partner, a trade-fair invitation or equivalent evidence.

Use the M route when nationality is not on the waiver list, the itinerary needs more flexibility than the waiver allows, or the host formally invites the visitor for commercial activity.

  • Waiver: eligible nationality, short business visit, no application.
  • M visa: broader commercial coverage, invitation-based evidence.
  • Either way, employment in China is a separate authorization question.
